It's remarkable how similarly detailed the worlds of these games are, and it's a good thing since I liked Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn. Although the PC version is similar to the PS5 release, it's still vastly superior in many regards.Īll PlayStation-exclusive games have a similar look in terms of graphics to me, and The Last of Us Part 1 looks like Days Gone mixed with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection with a bit of Horizon Zero Dawn on steroids. The remaster that came after it on PS4 included noticeably improved graphics. The initial release on PS4 offered a 1080p 60FPS mode which was visually identical to the PS3 version, aside from the increased render and texture resolution and better performance. The amount of detail on display in each section/scene is remarkable. This release is the definitive way to experience this story. Whoever states otherwise needs to get their eyes checked. The developers completely redid everything from the character models and environments to the animations for this remake. Graphics and Sound Quality (20 out of 20) Graphically speaking, this version is a consistent improvement and a big step up over both PS3 and PS4 versions. Standard stuff you can expect from a game like this. The game also offers a variety of collectibles to hunt, such as notes, optional dialogues, etc. Compared to its remaster, The Last of Us Part 1 also features a new AI system that makes the game more challenging and combats much more realistic. The game splits exploration and hostile encounters, allowing you to appreciate the characters in the exploration sections. If you're all about guns blazing, you can do that too. Understanding the upgrades is the key to completing the game, no matter the play style. Progressing through the game is easy enough with a slower and more tactical approach, regardless of difficulty level. However, if you're ready to fully immerse yourself into the world of The Last of Us Part 1, there's only one way to experience it - by cranking the difficulty to the max. If you're in it just for the story, it's enjoyable regardless of the difficulty selected. I feel like lower difficulty levels defeat the purpose of how punishing the world in this game can be. While the game plays just fine at the lowest difficulty level, to truly experience the horror this game offers in terms of gameplay tension, cranking it to the max is the way to go. The crafting system is one of the most important mechanics, and managing the upgrade resources is very important unless you're playing at a lower difficulty level. As a player, you use improvised weapons and stealth to defend against hostile humans and the infected.
